Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitar player and music artist. She was also the very first and youngest female to be awarded a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka shankar is one of India's most promising stars on the sitar. She is a student as well as daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar. She was born in London in 1982. During her first years she split her time between London New Delhi. Her first performance took place in New Delhi when she was only 13 years old. In the following years, in Encinitas CA she attended high school. She graduated with distinction in 1999. Anouskha, who is only an teen, has enjoyed an impressive recording and performing career. She regularly performs together with her dad, and has performed with him for many years. In 1998, she released her first solo album Anourag. It was followed by Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years after. As she's appeared on many of the biggest stages around all over the globe, her stage career has been extensive. Her career extends beyond the realm of music. Bapi the Love of My Live, a biographical picture dedicating to her dad Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. Also, she appeared in film in 2003. She played a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka shankar is a rising star and her career will keep on growing. Anoushka was raised in England however, she spent the majority of her childhood split between London and Delhi. She then moved to California and attended high school there. When she was 9, she started studying music alongside her father. The first time she performed on the Sitar took place during her birthday celebrations for her 75th birthday in Delhi just four years later. Anoushka performed with her father throughout his global tour, gained an impressive number of experiences. In her teenage years she played in Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. She was the first woman to win the House of Commons Shield, given by the British Parliament to recognize her musical talent and artistic ability in the Asian Arts.
